Contemporary Fashion - Whats your source?
To every teenager, Nylon is the staple/source of contemporary fashion. It's not a bad start but its most definitely it's epitome. For the lack of a better analogy, its like assuming that Twilight is an equivalent to Anne Rice's Interview with a Vampire or Bram Stoker's Dracula...there is just not comparison because its just not that hardcore (yes I said hardcore).
So if you would like to wander down the hole of contemporary fashion just a little more, then here's some mags to check:
I-D : Contemporary style guide including collections, art, print, design, music reviews and interviews.
Hint : Fashion magazine featuring news, model pages, photo shoots, designer interviews, beauty reports, party pictures and message boards.
Iconique : Includes virtual catwalk shows, news, editorials, beauty, trends blog, iPod videos, podcast and more.
Dazed & Confused : Agenda setting editorial, world beating fashion, brilliant photography and illustration, unrivalled music and film coverage, headline grabbing events, distribution in over 40 countries and admirers and imitators across the globe.
Arena Homme + : Arena Homme Plus is considered the world's leading fashion title for men. On sale twice a year it coincides with each new fashion season. Described as the authoritative style title for the male consumer Arena has challenged and presented new ideas on fashion communication. It has always aimed to take fashion off the catwalk and look at it in a wider context.
Another Magazine: he biannual Another Magazine was founded in 2001 by Jefferson Hack and is published by the Dazed Group. Headed by creative director Alex Wiederin in New York, the magazine is made by a network of a-list editors, photographers, stylists and artists.
The result is produced in England and features editorials that inspire, fascinate and reflect on style, fashion and the arts.
Surface: The magazine explores the motives and process behind the emerging trends, features reviews, editorials and presents renowned designers, emerging artists, curators, film makers and prodigies.
Tank : is an innovative magazine which revolutionized the publishing industry in the nineties when it came up with its original palm-size format for one of its issues. Tank magazine collaborates with the well-known and the unknown, showcasing fashion, art, literature, photojournalism and architecture within its pages.
Stand off:
Stand Off is a bi-annual magazine created by and for the To Be Confirmed and For Attention Of trade shows. It is the voice of a community of fashion creatives, marketers, managers and mavericks. Edited by the journalists Alex Ashcroft and Oliver Horton it is art directed by Tom Hingston Studio and co-published by Brand Progression and Vice. Staff Off aims to be clever, funny, informative and beautiful.
Purple: heir idea was to create a new kind of space for artists to present their work and express their ideas; and to design a network through which people working in different disciplines could easily access new information and each other. A typical issue features interviews, articles and presentations covering a wide range of topics and disciplines which include film and video, politics, fashion, architecture, sexuality, science, photography and music.
oh & of Course Vice.
